Cape Light

Joel Meyerowitz photographed Cape Cod with a large-format camera during the summer of 1976. First published in 1978, Cape Light follows the changing color and quality of light across the outer Cape, from blue morning porches and screen doors to late-afternoon dunes, water, and empty rooms.

This Museum of Fine Arts, Boston edition includes an introduction by Meyerowitz and an essay by Clifford Ackley. Made when color photography was still often treated as less serious than black and white, the book places color at the center of its study of place.
