Animals That Saw Me, Volume Two is a collection of photographs by Ed Panar documenting moments in which nonhuman species appear to look directly at the camera. Mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects are photographed in the act of beholding the photographer, producing a body of work that is both deadpan and genuinely strange. The images span recent work and rediscovered photographs from Panar's archive, edited for cumulative effect.
The volume includes an original essay by philosopher Timothy Morton and follows the first volume, published in 2011 and now out of print. Panar is a Pittsburgh-based photographer whose work engages questions of observation, attention, and the relationship between human and nonhuman life.
