Flagrant is a basketball magazine made by women, for everyone who thinks the sport deserves a wider lens. Focused on the stories of women and BIPOC women in and around the game, it brings a perspective that's been largely absent from mainstream sports media. Issue eight is compact in format, expansive in scope.
This issue opens with Austin Bell's aerial photography of public basketball courts across Brooklyn, Bohol, and Bangkok — a quiet study in how the game takes root in different soil. From there, it moves through a feature on Allison Hueman's 250-foot mural for the Golden State Valkyries, rooted in mythological imagery, and a sharp piece on the Jumbotron — its history, its mechanics, and its uncanny ability to catch everyone off guard.
