Corner of the Month: Kites in Shapes

Kites come in many shapes and sizes with different uses and ease of use!

Diamond 

Diamond kites are shaped like diamonds typically made with two cross-braced rods. These kites are well-balanced and easy to fly, making them popular for beginners, including children and adult novices.

Box

Box kites get their name from their box-like shape. They are one of the oldest types of kites and were first flown in the late 1800s. Box kites are very stable in the air and can fly in high winds. 

Delta Delta kites are triangular in shape and have two strings attached. They are named after the Greek letter Delta, which has a similar shape. Delta kites are easy to fly and are popular with beginner kite flyers.

Rokkaku

Rokkaku kites are hexagonal in shape and have six sides. They are traditionally made from washi paper and bamboo and are flown in festivals in Japan. Rokkaku kites can be flown solo or in competitions with other kite flyers. 

Sled

Sled kites are a type of delta kite that is designed to be flown in high winds. They have a long tail that stabilizes the kite and helps them fly in strong winds. Sled kites are often used for kiteboarding and kitesurfing.

Train

Trains and centipedes are multiple kites of any shape or structure that are connected by lines to each other.
