Talking Tour with Tour Photographer Ashley Gellman
Photography month is drawing to a close. We’ve been inspired to take more photos and look at more photos, Earlier in the month, we met Ashley Gellman at the Amateurs Release event at the store. In chatting about her connection to Photography, we knew we needed to ask more questions.

Another Corner: How long have you been taking photos of musicians?
Ashley Gellman: Oof - birdseye view would be 17 years maybe? I would take pictures of my friends bands growing up I would say it became more real and consistent around 12 years ago when I moved to Philly.
Do you take pictures of other things?
I definitely try to, haha. My job is documenting both BTS and live shows. When I’m home I tend to stray away from that so I can be more present/ “have time off”. I’m trying to be better at taking pictures in my day-to-day of the people I love and care for because I want to remember them just as much as well as my time on the road with the other pepole I love and care for.
What do you shoot with?
Overall, I am a Canon girl for live shows and shoots. My day to day I’m always on my Fuji x100 vi, contax t3 and then whatever film point and shoots I can thrift. I’ve recently been playing around with Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z20 I found for $25.
At Another Corner, we’re all about finding new corners to learn more about, how do you continue to embrace that kind of curiosity in your work?
Every artist I document is a different person. More often than not, they are complete strangers that I am starting to develop a relationship with. I spend the first few days learning their personality, what they’re comfortable with, and trying to read them to know when they need space. I match the energy of the person I am capturing and then add in from there.
What are other hobbies that you’re interested in?
Gosh I am really struggling with adapting hobbies right now, haha. I’m trying to get into more tactile practices both in and out of photography. Right now, I want to learn about alternative printing processes and how to do it on the road.
Many Corners interviews are connected to our monthly themes. Thank you to Ashley Gellman for being a part of Corner of the Month: Photography.
